Mark Phillips works with ferro-cement, wire sand and cement, to create free form sculpture for garden design. He makes sculptural pieces in the form of practical installations for garden and also whimsical objects. He constructs retaining walls that follow the land letting the materials determine the flow to create natural curves and contours.
Mark started landscape gardening in the late 70ís with Gorden Ford renowned local landscape gardener whose passion was to introduce indigenous flora encouraging Australian planting in the domestic garden. Influenced by this philosophy, Mark has completed commissions for private and public clients. He worked at Eltham High, Warren wood Steiner and Yarrambat Primary. Commissioned by Knox, Marshall, Laschelles, Weischman he has worked with many architects.
He has completed a variety of tiling and ferro creations along the south eastern coast of Australia.
Mark has generously donated his time to Doreen Primary School working with Hadyn Childs to create the large ferro cement shapes that welcome people into the vegetable garden. These sculptures are now being decorated by the students with hand made ceramic tiles and commercial tiles cut for mosaic. Thank you Mark.
